Personalized Psychiatric Care in California
Welcome!
My name is Sarita Shah, and I am a board certified general adult psychiatrist. I work with people to live their most fulfilling lives while managing anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. I also have specialty training in maternal mental health, encompassing pre-conception counseling, pregnancy, and postpartum mental health concerns. My goal is for us to build a relationship where we decide on a treatment plan together that prioritizes your goals.
I am available to see patients in person at my office in San Diego, CA. I also see patients via telehealth throughout California.
I graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in engineering from Trinity University. I then joined the combined MD/PhD program at Baylor College of Medicine, where I graduated with honors and was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. I completed my PhD in Bioengineering at Rice University and have done basic science research in the fields of novel biomaterials-based drug delivery systems and neural tissue engineering.
I completed residency training in psychiatry at the University of California San Diego. I am a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology since 2022.
Services
Medication Management
Putting your trust in a prescriber can be difficult. In my practice, we start with 1-2 one hour sessions to perform a full evaluation, get to know each other, explore options, and collaborate on a treatment plan. Trust is the foundation of our relationship, and this time ensures that we both feel this is a good fit.
Most importantly, I do not pass off your care to anybody else. You receive my direct phone number, and I remain your first contact for medication questions and collaboration, leaving you with the confidence that you will always be in good hands.
I am physically located in San Diego, CA and offer both in-person and telehealth services from our offices in University City. I offer telehealth services all over California.
Psychotherapy
For many people, good psychotherapy is an essential part of understanding and maintaining their mental health. Therapy and medications together have been shown to yield better results than either modality alone. Additionally, the combination of therapy and medications allows us to evaluate your medications dynamically.
To this end, part of the initial evaluation includes collaboration with your therapist, with your permission. This allows me to gain further insights from someone who knows you well, and to incorporate your work with them into our treatment plan. If you do not have a therapist, I am happy to provide referrals.
You may prefer to have psychotherapy integrated with medication management. I offer combined psychotherapy and medication management on a case-by-case basis, depending on need and fit.
